Challenge
Growing a competitive esports league requires converting casual viewers into dedicated fans, driving team sign-ups, and securing corporate sponsorships to fund production costs and prize pools. For Season III, the APL lacked a polished, high-performance web hub that reflected the true scale of the league. The goal was to build a modernized brand identity and central tournament portal that made match schedules, team rosters, and bracket telemetry easy to navigate. Elevating the league's professional image gave sponsors a compelling platform to invest in while making the signup and viewing process seamless for competing teams and fans.
Approach
I modernized the APL visual identity with a high-contrast charcoal and neon magenta design system. This gave the league a premium, broadcast-grade look that immediately established credibility with prospective brand sponsors and partners.
To boost viewer retention and fan acquisition, I laid out a multi-column schedule sorted by division and UTC time. Each card displays team logos, map details, and real-time score updates to keep fans engaged across every match window.
I added contextual hover states for match cards to highlight team win rates, map stats, and current standings. Making team performance instantly visible helped build fan loyalty around specific rosters and encouraged new teams to join the competitive ecosystem.
I created a horizontal timeline widget at the bottom of the dashboard. Divided by week, it shows completed results, active games, and upcoming fixtures to showcase league activity and prove value to potential sponsors.
I designed an integrated bracket view paired with live seed rankings. This gave sponsors clear placement for tournament milestones while allowing fans and teams to track championship paths without leaving the home screen.
Solution
The redesigned platform consolidates tournament tracking into a single, high-production portal. By pairing an elevated brand system with clear visual hierarchy, the web experience created an ideal environment to acquire new fans, streamline team entry, and give sponsors the high-visibility exposure needed to fund prize pools and league growth.
